Teaching Indonesian for Schools

Making Indonesian possible, sustainable, and enjoyable in Australian primary schools

Teaching Indonesian is an Australian education business supporting primary schools to successfully teach Indonesian through high-quality resources, curriculum, teacher language support, and EdTech solutions.

We exist to make teaching Indonesian possible, sustainable, and enjoyable even in schools with limited staffing, remote locations, or teachers with little to no Indonesian language background.

What we provide for primary schools

We offer a complete ecosystem for teaching Indonesian in Australian primary schools:

  • Curriculum and lesson guidebooks
  • Teacher resource membership (downloadable classroom materials)
  • Teacher Indonesian language training (Language Assist)
  • Student practice technology (practiceIndonesian.com using H5P)
  • Launching soon a video-based cultural learning (Classroom Assist)

Our work is grounded in sound language pedagogy, the Australian Curriculum, and real classroom experience.

Annual School License: What’s included

The Teaching Indonesian Annual School License is designed for one Indonesian teacher at one primary school.

With a current license, your school’s Indonesian teacher receives:

1. Teaching Indonesian Resource Membership

Ongoing access to a growing library of classroom resources, including:

  • Printable posters, flashcards, worksheets, workbooks, and activities
  • Scaffolded, intentional resources (not busy work)
  • Classroom-tested materials created by experienced teachers
  • Flexible use: teachers choose what suits their students and school context

This is designed to reduce overwhelm, save planning time, and increase teacher confidence.

2. Lesson Guidebook Curriculum (Foundation – Year 6)

A growing, curriculum-aligned scope and sequence for Indonesian, delivered as physical spiral-bound lesson guidebooks (per year level and term).

Each guidebook:

  • Assumes very little Indonesian language knowledge
  • Is “pick up and teach” friendly
  • Includes lesson examples, explanations, and multiple engaging activity options
  • Reduces planning load and cognitive overwhelm
  • Supports new teachers, classroom teachers, and non-specialists

This curriculum can:

  • Support existing Indonesian teachers
  • Enable classroom teachers to teach Indonesian where there is no specialist
  • Help schools affected by the national language teacher shortage
  • Enable Indonesian programs in remote or hard-to-staff schools

3. Language Assist

Language Assist is targeted Indonesian language training for teachers, designed specifically for teaching Indonesian to Australian primary students.

It is ideal for teachers who are:

  • New to Indonesian
  • Not confident in their language ability
  • Teaching Indonesian without formal training

Language Assist includes:

  • Termly 5- or 10-day language intensives (1 hour per day)
  • Ongoing 15-minute daily lessons based on Yohanni Johns’ Bahasa Indonesia
  • Focus on: correct pronunciation, relevant classroom language, and vocabulary teachers actually need
  • Cultural understanding linked directly to classroom teaching

Unlike university diplomas, private tutors, or general language apps, Language Assist focuses only on what teachers need to confidently teach Indonesian to primary students.

4. PracticeIndonesian.com

An EdTech platform offering interactive Indonesian practice activities aligned exactly to the Teaching Indonesian scope and sequence.

Typical uses:

  • Independent student practice in class (fast finishers)
  • Homework or at-home revision
  • Recycling and interleaving previously learned language

Additional users:

  • Teachers refreshing language before teaching
  • Language Assist members practising new language

What makes it school-friendly:

  • Perfect alignment with our curriculum and resources
  • No logins, no subscriptions, no ads
  • No personal data collected
  • A safe, closed environment schools can confidently whitelist
  • Designed to reinforce classroom learning, not replace teachers
